Get a Calendar up and fill in your obligations. Understand how much ‘free time’ you now have. (Okay, I’ll admit I may be a little biased.) With the recent release of the URBAN Guitar by Yamaha and its companion lesson app (featuring instruction from Keith Urban himself), lots of folks are getting excited about learning to play steel-string acoustic guitar … to which I say, great! In my opinion, it’s one of the most enjoyable things you can do in your life. The URBAN Guitar lesson app (available for both iOS and Android™) covers all the basics you need to get started, but here are eight tips of my own that beginning acoustic guitar players might find helpful. Find the Right Body Positionīy the “right” body position, I mean what’s right for you. If you already feel comfortable with how you’re holding the guitar, that’s a great start. One piece of advice: Even though the URBAN Guitar comes with a strap that allows you to play standing up right away, I recommend that, at least in the beginning, you practice while sitting, not standing. (Feel free to attach the strap to the guitar as soon as you want, of course, and don’t worry - you’ll be standing soon enough!) That’s because it’s easier to focus on what your hands are doing when you’re seated. Once you’re seated comfortably, hold the guitar so that the narrowest point of the inside curve on its bottom half is balanced around the middle of your thigh, as shown in the photo below. Be careful not to place the guitar too close to your knee or it might slip off while you’re playing. Then cradle the guitar with the arm of your picking hand, and bend that arm so that the crook of your elbow is right against the top edge of the body and your forearm makes a diagonal angle across the instrument: 2. That said, your picking hand should more or less follow the line of your forearm, making a diagonal angle to the guitar strings when laid across them, like this: Establish Good Hand PlacementĪgain, keep in mind that “good” hand placement for you may not necessarily be the same as it is for other people. Your fretting hand should wrap around the guitar’s neck so your fingers naturally form an arch over the fretboard, like this:īy the way, the neck on the URBAN Guitar by Yamaha is thinner than the average acoustic, so wrapping your fingers around it is a lot easier than on many other guitars. The thumb of your fretting hand is there to provide support for the rest of your hand as you play, so make sure it’s actually touching the back of the guitar neck. Where it touches the neck really doesn’t matter too much. Some guitarists like to keep their thumb anchored at the back all the time others like to move it around, depending on what their other fingers are doing. I suggest you try both approaches and see which one feels best to you. One of the hardest parts of learning guitar is building finger dexterity and strength. Take it easy at first your fingers (and especially your fingertips) are probably going to be a little sore after practice sessions of half an hour or more. But don’t get discouraged: Your fingertips will quickly adjust with regular practice and the muscles in your fingers will get stronger. In fact, you’ll be shocked at how quickly you progress simply by setting aside fifteen minutes to a half hour every day just to play. It’s also worth noting that the string tension on the URBAN Guitar by Yamaha is lower than on many other beginner instruments, so your hands have a lot less to fight against right from the start. In the URBAN Guitar lesson app, Keith and his co-pilot JUNOtake you through several of the basics and guide you through 14 fantastic songs that are easy to learn. ![]() However, if you’d like to go a little bit further with your lessons, try scales. ![]() Recover Deleted or Lost Data from External Hard Drive Due to Various. This is because a SSD has to clear old data before writing something new in its place, but since waiting until it had new data to write would slow things down, it clears that old data proactively. That way you can later run recovery software on a clone of that partition on a regular hard drive. If the data you want to recover is stored on an SSD, immediately making a disk partition image backup, including all clusters - the data you want back is stored in places the file system considers free space - is important. If that data's on the same partition as the copy of Windows you're running, the safest option with regards to recovering your files, is to hit the off switch or pull the plug, not even going through the normal Windows shut down procedure, because if Windows is running, it's writing to that drive partition. So, if your missing data is on a drive partition that you only use for storing music files, or maybe the documents you're working on, you can just avoid using that drive until you get your files back. ![]() Whether or not your missing data is overwritten or not is largely a matter of luck, But, the more data that's written to that drive partition, the worse your odds of recovering it. Now, the file system doesn't know you want to recover some or all of that data - it just knows that according to its records there's nothing of value stored there, so it's free to write new data on top of the files you want back, destroying that data forever. Data recovery software tries to find those bits & pieces and put them back together into usable files. Lost files are lost because the records the file system uses to locate the bits & pieces of those files has been deleted or become damaged. Data on a conventional hard drive remains on the hard drive until new data is written in its place. When the setup routine for a file recovery app says not to install the software on the drive partition that you want to recover files from, it means don't write any data to that drive partition. ![]() To have an email sent when a failure or new error occurs, use the -m option: Now your USB disk will be monitored even if the /dev/sd X path changes during reboot. I just hope that these heads use standard ls7 intakes, and they're not angle milled or faced on the intake side or anything weird like that. Eventually i want to use a holley hi ram intake on it also. But i'm too far into it now and bought too many parts so i'll stick with it. I was thinking a while ago about putting these LS7 daytona prototype heads and rockers for sale because of the extra effort involved with them, and just going to a simpler cathedral and hydraulic setup and boost. I'll see how much the baffle costs versus a moroso pan setup and decide. And i will do something with the oil pan. I will buy new rod bolts if i decide to use the stock rods. By the third or more use some of them will snap when torqued again to the same value. Learned that with my ls1 years ago by reusing the head bolts and balancer bolt. I remove it, spot weld the reluctor so it never moves, check run out, and it's good to go with new GM bearings. I trust the stock ls1 24x crankshaft better. People say they haven't had issues with the new ones but i'd feel like a dumb ass if the car died on me somewhere messed up and then i'd have to pull the whole engine just to swap reluctors again. And i'm not keen on those 24x/58x converters like the lingenfelter. If i use the stock pistons, i'll have to swap the reluctor on the L98 crankshaft which is more effort. Most LS2 forged 4"bore/stock stroke pistons are low 400 grams, nearly idential weight as stock ls1 pistons. Instead of going to the effort of swapping reluctors on the L98 crank.īut to do that the rod/piston weight needs to be less if i use the ls1 crank. The short motor i bought is actually an L98 58x reluctor motor, so I planned to just pull the ls1 24x crank out one of my other good runner ls1 short motors, spot weld the reluctor, and use that crank. |
